June bug in a grapefruit tree. I remember these iridescent bugs from my Arizona childhood. Not surprising, since their habitat is the U.S. southwest. They’re really quite gorgeous. An example of a scarab, the official name of this particular specimen is Figeater beetle.

From what I read on wikipedia, it doesn’t seem like they’re fighters. I guess those mandibles are for eating fruit.
