June Bugs in July

DSCN4482_edited-2June bug in a grapefruit tree. I remember these iridescent bugs from my Arizona childhood. Not surprising, since their habitat is the U.S. southwest. They’re really quite gorgeous. An example of a scarab, the official name of this particular specimen is Figeater beetle.

    1. From what I read on wikipedia, it doesn’t seem like they’re fighters. I guess those mandibles are for eating fruit.

    1. I actually have a shot that’s more graphic, but I would have had to use one of those black rectangles like in the naughty pictures! I decided on a more modest image.
