Those oaks really are iconic, aren’t they? When driving from LA to SF, the route hugs the Pacific ocean, then suddenly jogs inland and straight north. At this point the highway passes through a tunnel blasted into the hills, and then the vista opens up and these oaks start appearing. It always makes me happy to leave the upper edge of southern Cal for the lower cusp of central Cal.
