On a day trip to Santa Barbara, we pulled off to the tiny town of La Conchita, where a devastating landslide in 2005 buried 4 blocks of homes and killed 10 people. This photo was taken at the overgrowth of one of the buried homes.

The buried homes have been honored by the town people — little glass crosses bearing the names of the lost hang from the chain link fence. It is quite touching. The houses are now covered with morning glory, with home-made signs saying “butterfly garden”.
