Hi! I’m new to the photography field but I very much like it! I want to learn more about photography. I was wondering if you could help me? Please check out my blog to see the few pictures I have taken.
One thing that puzzles me is when we take a picture, how do we concentrate on some parts of it, while the others are blurry? Is it about the camera? Mine is a Sony Cybershot DSC T70. I know you need a DSLR for professional photography, but that’s all I have. I’m just 14, you see. So, could you please tell me?
I would love it if you commented on my photos. I would love getting advise from you!
Cheers

Hi Guilezilla,
I checked out your blog, and here are the photos that I respond to best: the doll … the light … coconuts.
The reason is exactly what you have asked about – each of these images concentrate on one specific object. That is what I myself prefer in an image. The specific photography technique (focus on one part while making other parts blurry) is called “bokeh”. Google it and you will learn a lot. You may also want to look on YouTube for “bokeh”. Also, Google “aperture”, which is how large or small is the opening in the lens. Lastly, Google “depth of field”. I don’t know if you can achieve this effect with your point-and-shoot. If your camera has a close-up setting for bugs & flowers, I suggest that you experiment with that setting. Good luck!

Thank you very much! I’ve opened 3 google pages and am about to read them.
That’s the problem. I don’t think it has this option. BTW, which is your camera? Canon Rebel? Anyway, if you tell me where that option is generally found, I can check.
Thanks again! Means so much to me! 😀

I think this is the manual for your camera … http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCT70.pdf
If so, it appears that “soft snap” might be what you are looking for? It also seems to have a macro setting.
My main camera is a Nikon D5000, with several lenses. My favorites lenses are the zoom lens and the macro lens. I also have posted lots of pictures taken with my point-and-shoot, and even some shots taken with my cell phone.

What is this “macro” thing? I’ve been seeing it for a long time and have been turning it off and on and off and on…
