Los Angeles was founded 232 years ago, on September 4, 1781 by its Spanish governor. It became part of Mexico in 1821 at the end of Mexico’s war of independence, and then became part of the United States in 1848 at the end of the Mexican-American war.

Every year on the Labor Day weekend, festivities are held in downtown LA in the plaza of Olvera Street.
